Maria Franco Gavonel

I'm an economist working on migration, sustainability, and human capital. In the past, I have worked on policy research and design, and currently I am focused on academic research.

Biography

I hold a PhD in International Development from the University of Oxford, and my doctoral thesis examines the drivers of climate-related youth migration and its impact on children and adolescents’ human capital accumulation in developing countries. I also hold an MSc in Development Economics and Policy from the University of Manchester and a Bachelor degree in Economics from the Universidad del Pacifico (Lima, Peru).

I am currently working as a Lecturer in Global Social Policy and International Development at the University of York. In the past, I have worked at the University of Exeter, the Young Lives study (University of Oxford), the World Bank, Save the Children, and the Research Centre of the Universidad del Pacifico, among others.​
